We love incorporating Crittall windows into our interior architectural design at Clifton. With their unique and modern aesthetic, these steel-framed windows characterized by their thin, vertical lines and large panes of glass, create a sense of light and space in any room.
One of the main benefits of Crittal windows is that they can be customised to suit specific needs and preferences. This includes powder-coating in a wide range of colors to match the interior decor, and the panes of glass that can be tinted or frosted for privacy.

At our project Hampstead Home For A Growing Family, we introduced Crittall at the end of the hallway / entrance to the kitchen to enhance the light and connection between the spaces. On the opposite side of the kitchen, we then used Crittall to create a jewel box open larder which is really successful in creating interest within the space.
It is important to keep in mind that they can also be overbearing if not used in the right balance. A great way to ensure that they are used effectively is to use them in conjunction with other design elements that can help to balance out their bold lines. For example, using natural wood flooring, furniture and wall panels can help to soften the overall look and add warmth to the space. Also consider to use them in combination with other types of windows in order to create a more dynamic and diverse look.

At Lamorna House, the key challenge of the project was enhancing the space for the young family whilst retaining a sense of the history of the property. The Victorian house was originally attached to a Georgian Wesleyan chapel and retains several features associated with this, including arched doorways and stone cast windows.
The design carefully blends these historic elements with contemporary interventions, notably Crittall in the arched doorways and kitchen extension, to create a home that responds to the clients’ lifestyle.
As much of the original ground floor was subdivided into separate rooms with many doors, it was carefully remodelled to achieve more space and better flow from entrance to the kitchen extension and the landscaped garden beyond. Pocket doors and glazed arched openings were included to create light filled rooms, whilst retaining separation and privacy between the different spaces when required. The large, glazed sliding doors to the kitchen extension enables the space to flow easily between indoors and outdoors.

For Chapel House, bespoke Crittall internal screens transform the interior of this home. Here they are used to create a seamless transition of light between spaces and at the same time provide architectural interest. Beautifully crafted and functional, these screens have a timeless style. Crittall is also used for the vast opening to the garden and the metal finish is continued by the balustrade and hand rail. All are beautifully complemented by the natural oak floor throughout.

Overall, Crittal windows can be a great addition to many homes, providing both aesthetic appeal and functionality. By carefully considering their placement, balancing them with other design elements and ensuring they are properly maintained, you can make the most of their unique style and ensure they are an enduring feature in your home.
