Creating a window seat in a room not only adds a cozy spot for reading and relaxing, but it also serves as a design element that can bring interest and character to the space. One of the main benefits of a window seat is that it allows you to make the most of natural light in a room. The seat provides a comfortable place to sit and enjoy the view, whether it’s a picturesque landscape or an bustling city street.
As Interior Designer’s the window seat is not just functional but also a great place to introduce colour and soft textures into a space that might otherwise be a bit more hard-wearing such as a kitchen. For our House On The Heath project the kitchen window seat does just that. By using different soft furnishings, such as cushions, throws, and curtains, you can create a visual impact and complement the overall design scheme. Consider using different fabrics such as velvet, linen, or silk to add texture and interest to the window seat. You can also play with color and pattern to create a cohesive look and feel.
At Lamorna House, the window seat was created within the dormer of the loft conversion. Undoubtedly it offers not just the best lit spot in the house but also the best view. Here we used bold fabric from Kvadrat X Raf Simmons for the upholstery of the seat, cushions, and Ligne Rosset Togo sofa.
A perhaps more architecturally innovative example of us incorporating a window seat in the design of a kitchen is when we created a glass box window at our London Fields Home. This is a really low key and casually furnished example that fits with vibe of the space and house as a whole.
Needless to say, we love a window seat. They can be a great addition to any room, whether it’s a bedroom, living room, kitchen or even a home office. It provides a cozy and inviting space to relax and unwind, while also adding design interest and character to the room.
